What is Fractional Resurfacing?
A fractional laser resurface is a cosmetic procedure that clears up deep wrinkles, advanced scaring, acne scaring, pigmented lesions and a host of other skin anomalies by partially removing the outer layer of skin. Depending on the condition of the skin and the level of treatment required, fractional laser resurfacing can be tuned to treat specific needs and adjust the down time to suit the patients needs. Down time can be anywhere from 1-15 days depending on the level of treatment required. Deeper wrinkles and scars such as acne scaring may require more down time or multiple treatments. Rule of thumb is; Deeper the treatment equals better results faster but results in more down time.
What is a fractional laser peel?
A Laser peel is a light version of a laser resurface. It removes a minimal amount of the epidermis to clear up skin complexion, reduce color issues, reduce pore size and tighten skin. The result is a healthy fresh looking skin tone. Fractional laser peels are less invasive and require only a minimal down time (apx 24 hrs).
How does fractional laser resurfacing work?
When your skin is damaged, your body produces new skin cells, collagen and elastin fibers to replace the damaged area. Fractional laser resurfacing is a controlled damage to the skin surface. It works by causing a minimal injury over a wide area which stimulates your bodies natural repair process throughout the whole area. Even thought the whole surface isn't damages, your body produces new cells and collagen over the entire area that it would otherwise not normally produce. In effect, it fools the skin into thinking it's damaged worse than it actually is. These new replacement cells push up the old cells replacing them with new fresh clearer and tighter skin. Fractional resurfacing is computer controlled so there is an even application every time. There are no "hot spots" to contend with. Fractional procedures assures consistent results every time.
Why is fractional laser resurfacing better?
Fractional laser resurfacing gets deeper into the skin to effectively remove problems that other procedures cant. Fractional technology is controlled by a computer for better, more consistent results. Its more effective at dermal remodeling than any other type of laser procedure. Fractional resurfacing can be an alternative to complicated surgery with the same or better results. Typically the casts are greatly reduced as is the pain and down time.
